You've seen a photographer's Instagram. You love their vibe. Then you book them and think: "But what if I want something different? Can I ask for that?"
Or worse: you're worried about asking, so you stay silent and hope for the best. Then the photos come back and... they're not quite what you imagined.
Let me tell you what's actually okay to ask for—and what's not.

My Philosophy: "Listen First, Light Second, Edit Honestly"
Before I answer this question, I need to explain how I work.
When you book a session with me, you're not just paying for photos. You're hiring my eye, my experience, and my artistic vision. That vision has three parts:
Listen First — I actually care about what you want. Not what Instagram wants. Not what trends say. What you want.
Light Second — I'm obsessed with getting the light right, because good light is everything. It doesn't matter if you're at Eagle Beach or Manchebo Beach—bad light = bad photos. Good light = magic.
Edit Honestly — I edit in my style, which is natural, warm, and real. Not overly filtered. Not artificial. Just... beautiful versions of you.
That third part is important, because it's where most conflicts happen.

What You CAN Definitely Ask For

Specific Moments or Activities
"We want photos of us walking together" or "Can you get some of the kids playing in the sand?"
Yes. Absolutely.
That's not changing my style—that's just me knowing what to focus on. Totally fine.
Specific Locations
"We love that spot at Manchebo Beach with the rocks" or "Can we start at Eagle Beach?"
Yes.
I know Aruba's best locations. Tell me what speaks to you, and I'll make it happen.
Comfort and Boundaries
"I'm not comfortable with [thing]" or "Can we avoid [situation]?"
Yes. Always.
If you don't want certain angles, or you're shy about certain poses, or you have a comfort level—tell me. I'll respect it. There are a million ways to get amazing photos without making anyone uncomfortable.

What's Trickier (But Still Possible)

"Can you edit like [Other Photographer]?"
This is where people get nervous. Here's the honest answer: No. I won't. And here's why.
My editing style is my style. It's how I see color, light, and what looks beautiful. If you book me and ask me to edit like someone else, you're asking me to be someone else. That defeats the purpose of hiring me.
BUT— if you love a photographer's vibe and book me instead, here's what you do:
Show me examples of what you like. Bright and airy? Warm and moody? High contrast? Muted tones? I'll find my version of that feeling. I won't copy their style, but I'll absolutely understand the mood you want and deliver something in that direction through my lens.
Think of it like this: You can ask a chef to make food that tastes "bright and citrusy" (that's a vibe). You can't ask them to cook exactly like another chef (that's asking them to stop being themselves).
"Can you make me look [very different]?"
If you want subtle retouching—smoothing skin, brightening eyes, removing a blemish—yes, 100%.
If you want me to make you look like a different person—change your face shape, slim you down dramatically, lighten your skin tone—no.
Here's why: I edit honestly. The goal is to make you look like the best version of yourself, not a different person. Because when you get the photos back and post them, people who know you will recognize you. And you'll feel authentic in them.
(Plus, heavily altered photos always look... altered. And not in the good way.)
What Actually Works
The best couples and families I've worked with here in Aruba? The ones who say something like:
"We want natural, candid moments. We love warm tones. And can we get some laughing photos, not just staring-at-the-camera stuff?"
That's perfect. That gives me direction without asking me to be someone I'm not.
The Bottom Line
Here's what I promise:
I will listen to what you want. I will show up with my best skills, my knowledge of Aruba's best light, and my commitment to capturing real, beautiful moments. I will edit in a way that makes you look and feel authentic.
I won't fake my style to match someone else's. I won't make you look like someone you're not. And I won't create images that feel filtered or artificial.
But within those boundaries? I'm flexible. I'm collaborative. I want you to love your photos.
